The food and beverage industry has primary importance in the European economy and most sub-sectors in the food industry are water consumption-intensive. SWITCH4FOOD, funded by the European Commission under the “Competitiveness and Innovation Programme” (CIP), aims to identify and analyze best practices and knowledge of SMEs in the food industry for water use and wastewater to allow their exchange and transfer among the countries involved. Connected to water use and wastewater, two other fields will be thoroughly evaluated: wastewater reuse and energy recovery.

Eco-innovation – EU Info Day on the 8th of May
The CIP Eco-innovation is an EU funding which can co-finance up to 50% of the first commercial application of eco-innovative solutions, be it products, processes, techniques or services. Water and the Agrofood sector are among the 5 priorities of this initiative. Note that an EU info Day is planned for the 8th of May 2012 : get ready and register here!
Brussels SME Food club
The third session of the Brussels SME Food club will take place on 03.05.2012. It will be a training session delivered by Environmental experts to help SMEs from the food sector to better monitor their water consumption. Brussels SME Food club
The second session of the Brussels SME Food club will take place on 02.02.2012. It will present financial support available in the Brussels region for food companies willing to invest in environmental-friendly processes and management. An entrepreneur from the food sector will also share its own experience on the investments and organizational changes that were necessary to reduce its water and energy bills. ECOMONDO FAIR
S4food will be present at ECOMONDO FAIR, in the scientific section: OROBLU (WATER) presenting a review of the current situation in Italy regarding technology and key process developments made in water and sludge treatment as well as management techniques to improve plant efficiency, and the development and dissemination of experimental testing, as well as key best practices in each area.

Last 6th of October took place the first session of the Brussels club of Agrofood SME. It was an opportunity to discuss the economic importance of energy and water savings in this sector, as well as the relevant energy and water legislation applicable to Agrofood.
